MUMBAI: The Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Chapel Choir of the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance will be performing in Mumbai for the first time. This year the choir will be directed by Ralph Allwood who will also be joined by the SOI Chamber Orchestra.
On her first visit to India, Ralph Allwood expressed, “We love the excitement of Mumbai. We are currently engaged in five outreach projects, and we are so impressed with all the good work so many people are doing. Today we have our big concert in NCPA. We love the people and love the place.”
When asked about the message the choir wants to give, he further said, “I love the sound of the choir. It is singing well, with enthusiasm and joy. When this happens, the joy and the excellent music are conveyed to others. I like the idea that this message will be taken to people who haven’t quite understood the joy of choirs in full voice.”

On being asked to comment on the same, Ralph said, “They are almost all studying at Trinity Laban in Greenwich. They are all good readers, which mean we can do a lot of really good music with beautiful sounds from every single singer. Also, we have one of the most beautiful chapels that can be imagined.”
Ralph, who is the director of the Eton Choral Courses, has also introduced choral courses across the world. Speaking about the same, he concluded, “I first heard a choir singing beautifully when I was 16, and I couldn’t believe the effect. My whole life is occupied in trying to rediscover that beautiful experience from as many different choirs in as many different places as possible, and, I hope it will be shared with many people.”
The Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Chapel Choir (ORNCTLCC) has existed in its current format since 2001 when Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance became heavily involved in the provision of music at the Chapel. The conservatoire happens to be the only in the world to have its own dedicated chapel choir. It is now regarded as one of the most outstanding sacred music ensembles in London.
They will be performing today at Tata Theater, NCPA at 7 pm.
