MUMBAI: Chennai’s live fusion band Oxygen, had a scintillating performance at the Rasing Day Coast Guard event in front of the Indian Navy and Air Force coast guards’ Andaman and Nicobar base. The band performed along with other cultural performers, but the headlining act was conducted by them.
“We went there two days in advance, had our rehearsals. The coast was completely different from what we have in our mind. We felt very proud performing there,” said C Girinandh, one of the band members and keyboard player.
On the vibe, the band was receiving, he further added, “The vibe was nice and spontaneous, we thought it would be a formal type event, but then the officers there really started enjoying? The performance was very interactive and all the officers started enjoying themselves.”

Band Oxygen was later being felicitated by the Commander in General of the Coast Guard with a momentous souvenir. The ceremony located at a very secluded area in Andaman having no cellular reception, tight security and celebrated coast guard professionals. “They were very professional the way they conducted themselves, their communication was very clear and the way they took care of us was absolutely fantastic. At Andaman, you had limited resources so they made sure that everything was arranged, everything was on time and they gave us a luxurious treatment and hospitality. They took us on a cruise and all together it was a very different experience. Their involvement and service are great, that’s when we got to know what their true challenges are.”
The band ended giving us some inputs about their upcoming projects C Girinandh concluded, “We are coming up with a cover version and are collaborating with playback singers, and also we are working on a song from an upcoming movie Guru.”
