MUMBAI: Technology changed the course of way we listen and produced music. Though computers and digital formats maybe the most widely used media now, the precurser to this was the Sony Walkman which started the ‘music on the go’ revolution.
The Sony Walkman, the clunky portable cassette player, has been named the best musical invention of the last 50 years, by T3 magazine. Walkman’s victory comes in the same week in which it has celebrated its 30th birthday.
The Walkman has even beaten innovations like Dolby sound, compact discs, and the iPod to top the list of â€?ten most important musical innovations of the last 50 years’, published by T3 magazine The first Walkman was the blue-and-silver model (TPS-L2) went on sale in Japan on July 1, 1979, and went on to become one of the world’s first globally appealing gadgets.
