MUMBAI: Indian playback singer Vijay, son of legendary singer KJ Yesudas, is all set to wear the composer’s hat for Sanjeev Sivan’s Arabian Safari.
Vijay Yesudas, works predominantly in the South Indian film industry. He started his music career in 2000 and has sung many songs under the renowned composer, Ilaiyaraja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Pritam and Himesh Reshammiya from Hindi and a handful of songs for maestro AR Rahman.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Vijay said, “ ‘Arabian Safari’ was offered to me while I was recording a song for Sanjeev Sivan’s previous film as a singer, which is slated to release soon and has been sent to many film festivals across the globe. To compose music for his new venture is a very challenging and interesting offer. I was quite shocked and I questioned him (Sivan) about turning into music director many times before he convinced me and gave me the confidence that I could deliver.”

Music for the film is reported to have a very modern and club mix feel and as it is an action thriller a lot of heavy background score is expected. “I have been asked by Sanjeev to give it more of an Original Soundtrack format rather than the usual regular songs, ” he added.
Although this is his debut film as a composer, the talented singer was much familiar with the art. “The feeling of composing is not new to me because I’ve been doing it for years now. Infact to be very open and honest, the few tunes that I had made Sanjeev listen to, were basically stuff I was holding on to for years now. When I felt that the few tunes I had in hand suited few situations in this film, I made Sanjeev hear them and he liked them. But I obviously have reworked and still am working on it. So fingers crossed and prayers from all of you guys and thankyou for all your support. I hope and pray I can deliver some really nice songs for all of you to listen to and enjoy.”
He also shared that he has no intentions of shifting from playback singing, “I am very much a singer regardless of whether I do more films as a composer or even if I may decide to act in films,” he added.
Arabian Safari revolves around two women on a journey. The story is written by debutant Pratish Nandhan. Lakshmi Rai and Mallika play the lead women. Jaaved Jaaferi, Mamukoya, Thesni Khan, Siddique and Narain play prominent roles in the film.
