MUMBAI: Legendary rock ‘n’ roll band Van Halen kicked off their long awaited Japan tour with an extended playlist for fans that lasted for well over two hours- their longest ever.
The band’s first stop on their Japan 2013 tour was at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in Nagoya where they played material from their new album ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ , hit- ‘Panama’, Hot For Teacher’ and added gems like ‘Atomic Punk’, ‘Jamie’s Cryin’ and ‘Mean Streets’.
The veteran band (excluding bassist Wolfgang Van Halen who has just crossed 20) played an impressive 27 songs including the drum and guitar solo in a show that lasted two hours-twenty minutes, which is possibly the longest show the band has ever performed”, the band’s newsdesk reported.
The band’s tour is part of their well-received ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ album released last year with original frontman, David Lee Roth after a gap of 28 years. Like a lot of hard rock bands, Van Halen has a strong fan base in Japan, and the country is a regular part of the band’s itinerary. The band last toured Japan for their ill-fated 1998 ‘Van Halen III’.
This time, Nagoya fans got treated to a viewing of Roth’s short film, ‘Tokyo Story’ as the lead-in to ‘Ice Cream Man’ instead of the ‘Dog World’ video shown during the band’s north American tour last year.
The band’s next stop is Tokyo (21 June) followed by two dates in Osaka (24 and 26 June).
