Mumbai:Digital downloads in the UK are reported to be worth four per cent of the total music and video market with more than ?160m to be spent on music and video downloads in the UK this year, according to a forecast by market analysts, Verdict. According to Verdict`s UK Music and Video Retailers 2007 report, digital download sales have climbed 45.5 per cent from last year and will be worth a total of ?163m in 2007.
Spending on digital downloads is forecast to reach a massive ?600m a year by 2012, while CD and DVD spending is slowing.
In fact, the overall UK music and video market has fallen 2.9 per cent to ?4bn in 2007.
According to a report conducted by Entertainment Media Research earlier in the year though, illegal music piracy is also on the increase. Downloading music illegally has risen from 36 per cent in 2006 to 43 per cent in 2007
