MUMBAI: It has been over a month since post punk band ‘The Dirty Strikes’ lost one of its founding members and guitarist Bom Leimapokpam. But that has not stopped the rest of the band from playing ‘Good Damaged Girl’ or ‘Where do I belong’ or ‘Hey!! Who killed her’, tracks that were co-created with Bom. However, the four-member band has decided to celebrate Leimapokpam’s music contribution to the band through its upcoming gigs and a new single.
The Dirty Strikes, consisting Kennedy Heigrujam (vocalist), Tom Meisnam (guitarist), Naoba Thingujam (bassist) and Thiyam Umakanta (drummer), is working on a single ‘The young and the flying machine’. Heigrujam said, “After Bom passed away, we had a brainstorming session and we made a song inspired by Bom’s Life. We put all our ideas together and have given the track the required beats. It will be completed soon.” The track is going to be “different” as compared to their last tracks as it will have some electronic music in it as well. “It is completely new music, and will include some electronic samples,” Heigrujam added.
The band’s brainstorming session helped them come up with ideas for the upcoming track’s video. It will feature Leimapokpam’s parents, along with the parents of the other band members. The shoot for the video will take place during their upcoming tour-‘1800 Seconds tour’. Heigrujam said, “We are going to play our own music during the tour. The same songs Bom played with us. We will play his part from his laptop.” As of now, the four piece band will not be adding a new member.
The Imphal based band will play at Man-Fete on 20 February at 2 pm, 21 February at Itanagar – Statehood day and on 8 March at Peace Blast.
The band completed their fifth anniversary on January, and also played at the first edition of Vans New Wave Asia Musicfest and Ziro Music Festival in the past
