MUMBAI: Adding to its music offering with innovative content, Big CBS Spark has partnered with Artist Aloud to bring its online rockumentary series ‘Thank God Its Rock on Friday’ (TGIRF) on the television screen.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Big CBS Networks business head Anand Chakravarthy says, “We are focusing on promoting independent artists on the channel and Artist Aloud is a great online platform for independent artists.”
The 30-minute show will feature the first season of TGIRF with bands and artistes like Agnee, Parikrama, Indus Creed, Raghu Dixit and Hipnotribe amongst others. It is dedicated to indie rock artistes and will chronicle the musical journey of renowned artists and bands interspersed with unheard stories. The show begins on 19 October and will air on the channel at 9:30pm every Friday.
“Indie music is rapidly gaining popularity in India with many Indian bands and artists having a cult following. The youth consume this particular kind of content at gigs and online and this will be one of the first opportunities for our audiences to avail of Indie rock music on television and give viewers a chance to go beyond their favourite artiste’s music and get to know their stories,” adds Chakravarthy.
The show will be promoted on radio, television, digital and OOH media. The network is looking forward to future associations and bringing the indie rock culture to the forefront in the country. “In the future, we would definitely like to present more shows highlighting the Indie rock culture,” he states.
Speaking on the association, Artist Aloud associate VP Soumini Sridhara Paul says, “We are a platform focusing on independent music and with Big CBS network too focusing on niche music content, this association came about. We started our discussions a year back and are happy that TV is now opening up for non-film based content as well. As far as Big CBS is concerned, this initiative is not a gamble for them since we did have the best bands and artistes in the first edition of TGIRF.”
While the nine-week property on the channel is a marketing syndication between both the parties, the digital platform aims to monetize on the aspect in the future. “We are still in talks about the second season of the series and if it goes through we would like to be more than just branding and marketing on the channel. Everything is not about money but we aim to earn some revenue with the second edition of TGIRF. We also have some upcoming initiatives and are looking for a TV partner so it would be great to associate with the channel,” Paul avers.
