MUMBAI: Taylor Swift’s first attempt at pop, with her fifth studio album ‘1989’, continues to bring in more revenue. According to Nielsen Music, the album has now surpassed five million in U.S. sales, which makes ‘1989’ the fastest album to have reached the spot in more than a decade.
‘1989’ had crossed the 5 million mark towards the end of last week, and currently stands at 5.015 million. It reached the milestone in the 36th week of its release, making the album’s climb to 5 million the speediest since Usher’s 2004 album ‘Confessions’, which hit the 5 million mark in just 19 weeks of being on sale.
The album is the ‘Bad Blood’ singer’s third album to sell 5 million copies, following 2008’s ‘Fearless’ and her self-titled debut, which was released in 2006. To date, ‘Fearless’ has sold 6.95 million copies while ‘Taylor Swift’ has had 5.52 million sales. British singer- Adele’s ‘21’, released in 2011, surpassed the 5 million milestone in its 42nd week, and has since then sold more than 11 million.
Meanwhile, Swift’s track ‘Blank Space’ hit one billion views and has become the fastest video to do so. The pop singer also recently donated $50,000 to an 11-year-old girl fan, who is battling acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
