MUMBAI: Country-pop star Taylor Swift struck it big at the Billboard Awards. The singer nominated in 11 categories won eight of them including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for ‘Red’. The album has sold over 3.7 million copies.
Swift’s wins in other categories included top female artist, top country artist and top digital songs artist. ‘Red’ topped the Billboard 200 and country albums categories. Her song ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ was named top country song.
“Thank you for making my music the soundtrack to your crazy emotions, you are the longest and best relationship I’ve had,” Swift told fans.

Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter Gotye and Rihanna had the second-most wins with four awards each.
Gotye and Kimbra’s single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, which sold 7.3 million downloads, also won them hot 100 song, rock song, radio song and streaming song (Audio).
Rihanna also took four awards, winning in the R&B artist, album and song categories, plus radio songs artist.
Nicki Minaj who won her first Billboard award for top rap act, along with One Direction and Madonna went home with three trophies while the late Jenni Rivera, Baauer and tobyMac secured two honours apiece.
Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber won top male artist, social artist and the fan-voted milestone awards, beating Swift and Bruno Mars in the category.
The newly introduced EDM (Electronic Dance Music) category was won by French DJ- producer Guetta.
A highlight of the awards was pop-rock artist Prince who received the Icon award and closed the show with a medley of his hits. The Purple One’s career achievement include10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles.
The Billboard Awards held at Las Vegas on 19 May were given out in 45 categories. The awards were based on data tracked between 12 March 2012 and 10 March 2013. The finalists were based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music.
