MUMBAI: In a rare deal, music label T-Series has acquired the music rights of UTV’s 16 forthcoming films. The deal includes the physical and digital music publishing rights of the films, making it the biggest music deal Bollywood has seen till date.
The list of films comprise Ken Ghosh’s next with Shahid Kapoor, Vishal Bharadwaj’s film starring Shahid again, Aushutosh Gowariker’s next, Shoojit Sircar’s tentatively titled Shoe Bite, Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D, Oye Lucky, lucky Oye, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Delhi 6, Fashion, Wednesday, and the Salman Khan starrer Main Aur Mrs Khanna.Confirms T-Series president, Marketing Media Publishing Vinod Bhanushali, “Yes, we have inked a music deal with UTV. Unquestionably we are the experts in the market, hence most of the big production houses like to sell their music rights to us. We know the pulse of the market very well.”
The rights have been acquired for an approximate figure of Rs 280 million.
T-Series has a slate of films lined up for the next quarter and with UTV’s library added to it, the former is sure to captivate the market entirely.
UTV Digital, UTV’s newly launched digital music arm will not have any access to the publishing rights of these 16 films.
UTV’s in-house music label was set up early this year with the music launch of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akhbar. UTV Spotboy released Aamir a few days ago and the music rights to the same rest with Sony BMG.
