MUMBAI: Popular Bangalore based Indian folk/fusion band Swarathma released their single Manwa.
“This song was a joy to work on for the band because of its funk-based feel. The drum groove and basslines are all inspired by funk lines. It was, in fact, one of the first songs that our new drummer Joel Milan Baptist learned when he joined the band in 2016,” informed Jishnu Dasgupta (bass guitarist and vocalist) from band Swarathma.

He mentions some key highlights of the song, “The beautiful part of the song was the incendiary violin solo section that almost always draws praise for violinist Sanjeev Nayak.”
Unlike many of Swarathma’s other songs that raise awareness around social issues, this song is a unique one, “Manwa is about inward-looking, into the heart and mind. This song is about those times when you can soothe your mind (your manwa) with the words that ‘this too shall pass’,” elaborated Dasgupta.
Well, it’s interesting on how the song Manwa came to their mind, Dasgupta revealed the story, “Vasu (vocalist and rhythm guitarist) was sitting by himself at an airport departure lounge, waiting to board a flight. He began jamming on a catchy bluesy riff. It became the song Manwa, which is about telling your heart that sometimes things don’t go your way despite the best of efforts. Further, the story follows the characters of two band members who go through different experiences until they find that peace they are looking for.”
The video features artwork that has been released as part of a comic book. This comic has been created with stories inspired by the songs.
On the work front, the band is planning to bring out a video series of acoustic performances of the songs released till date.
They are also working on a new series of videos that explore performances for audiences who have no access to music called BYOH – Bringing You Our Happiness.
Lastly, Dasgupta gives a message to Swarathma’s fans, “Keep believing that there is good in the world. Music is just the soundtrack of that echo of goodness.”
