BANGALORE: Music director Mano Murthy, who scored for the Kannada blockbuster Mungaru Male, launched Bangalore based Hindi band Swarathma’s debut album on Monday evening.
The launch of the album, also called Swarathma, was followed by a live performance by the band at Opus, Bangalore’s popular music hangout. The evening was hosted by Radio City’s RJ Kiran. Also present on the occasion was Kannada film music director and singer Guru Kiran.
The band’s bass guitarist and spokesperson Jishnu Dasgupta said that he was looking forward to a video version of the album. The self titled maiden album comprises eight original compositions, seven of which are in Hindi and one in Kannada. The band’s music which fuses genres to achieve a fresh sound, earned for them Radio City’s RC Live 2008 crown. A part of the reward was a contract with EMI Virgin Records for the release of an album.
Swarathma will be touring other Indian cities soon to take their music to audiences across the country. The band will perform in Pune on 7 January, in Mumbai on 8 January and in New Delhi on 10 January. The other promotional activities planned include Swarathma’s music and experiences on Radio City; contests on Radio City and www.planetradiocity.com, a website on which Swarathma features as Planet Radio City Superstar for the month. Radio City also has exclusive access to the album.
The band comprises six members – Vasu Dixit (Lead vocals, rhythm guitar); Jishnu Dasgupta (Bass guitar, backing vocals); Pavan Kumar (Percussions, backing vocals); Sanjeev Nayak (Violins); Montry Manuel ( Drums and percussions); Varun (Lead guitar) and has performed at venues such as the Mysore Yuva Dasara alongside Usha Uthup and has taken part in the Sutasi Talent Showcase in October 2008 in Singapore.
