MUMBAI: Of hundreds of participants, Bangalore-based post-rock band Space Behind the Yellow Room have been selected to represent India and perform at the upcoming Music Matters Live. The four-day music festival will be held in Singapore from 20 to 23 May. Space Behind the Yellow Room will join several winning finalists from other countries like U180 from China, Truc Nhan from Vietnam and Boom Boom Cash from Thailand.
Talking about what will be their debut international performance, lead vocalist Shoumik Biswas told Radioandmusic.com, “It was exactly like applying for a music festival; you send in your demos, they like you and then they choose you.” With this being the band’s first performance at Music Matters Live, Biswas stated that the band is excited to meet music artists and bands from all over the world. “It will be really cool if people from around the world listen to our music and appreciate it,” he added. When asked whether the band is excited to watch another band in particular, Biswas cited the Australian indie/pop group Twin Lakes.
Space Behind the Yellow Room released their debut extended play (EP) titled ‘Conversations that Determine a Life’ in September last year. Since then, the band has been working on new material that Biswas said they plan to release as a full length studio album, “however that will take some time,” he added. However, he did say that the band will have another track ready before leaving for Singapore and will be playing unreleased material at Music Matters Live.

Biswas worked alongside the band’s guitarist Devasheesh Sharma and their college mate Quentin Andrew on a two-track EP called ‘Maybe Fifteen’. “Devasheesh and I were already writing something and Quentin joined us. The collaborative effort resulted in these two tracks,” said Biswas. He also said that the second track from ‘Maybe Fifteen’, called ‘And At Last’ will be one of the interludes in the full-length album.
In addition to lending vocals for Space Behind the Yellow Room, Biswas also has his own solo psychedelic project called Disco Puppet, and recently performed at the seventh edition of Control ALT Delete. He further added that after releasing Disco Puppet’s first EP ‘Astronot’ last year, he plans to release a full length Disco Puppet studio album, which he says would be a collaborative album.
Biswas will perform as Disco Puppet tomorrow, 13 May at The Humming Tree in Bangalore.
