Soul Singer Etta James passes away

MUMBAI: Legendary soul singer Etta James passed away on 20 January after a pro-longed struggle with leukemia. The 73 year old singer was admitted in Riverside Community Hospital in California.

The singer’s manager and friend Lupe De Leon said, “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around. She was a true original who could sing it all – her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her.”

The winner of four Grammys and a 1993 inductee to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, James was portrayed in the 2008 movie “Cadillac Records” by Beyonc?© Knowles.

Etta James will be remembered for her contribution in the field of music and art. Her singing style spanned over various genre like blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, gospel and jazz. Starting her career in mid 1950, Etta was the voice behind several chartbuster including hits like Dance with Me, Henry, At Last, Tell Mama, and I’d Rather Go Blind.
