MUMBAI: As Diwali is at our doorstep and we are busy lighting up the stars, there is so much happening further than that.
Radioandmusic.com wishes everyone an easy breathing Diwali. On this auspicious occasion, we contacted some of the popular RJs from several radio stations as we wanted to know how they are celebrating the festivals of lights.
We had a talk with Radio Nasha’s RJ Anmol who shared during his childhood Diwali was all about new clothes and that was the only excitement.

While sharing a special memory about Diwali, RJ Anmol said, “I remember this Diwali very clearly. I was in the lawn of our home alone, burning crackers. There was this particular cracker in green
colour which I used to light on my hands, then toss it in the air. It used to burst in the air, the whole experience was very exciting, but as I was enjoying the process, the timing of one of them got wrong and I released it little late and that burst in my hand. I had no sensation in my right hand. My ear drums were numb and I saw flashes in front of my eyes.”
On talking about Radio Nasha’s special program about Diwali, he said Radio Nasha is screening ‘Amar-Akbar-Anthony’ on the Big Screen. “I’m totally excited about hosting this because I will be a part of such a screening after a long time. Earlier I have screened seven films like this, stated Anmol.
For Anmol, this year Diwali will be with family at home. Also, this is his first Diwali with Amrita Rao, after getting married.
For his audience, he said, “Spread love, that’s what matters eventually!”
Shagufta Ahmed, from Radio Indigo who is called the ‘coolest RJ of the nation’, said she has not planned much for the festival.
“For a change, I just plan to sit at home and eat all the sweets I’ve got as gifts while watching some rom-coms. I’ve got Sleepless in Seattle and Never Been Kissed lined up. Also, I’m going to re-watch Gilmore Girls so I can catch up with the new season on Netflix,” stated Shagufta.
Meenakshi from My FM who is famous for her show ‘Salaam Chandigarh’ on MY FM Chandigarh, shared some of her childhood memories of this festival. “I used to take crackers in my school bag, during the assembly, I used to light them and people used to get panicked!” stated she.
I was in a convent school. Once I put a cracker (ladi) outside of a dispensary and while I was about to light it up, one of our sisters from the convent saw me doing that. I got scolded and threatened,
saying that they will call my parents. After that day, they used to check my bag separately.”
Meenakshi also added MY FM has taken an amazing initiative called ‘Ek Diya Ek Koshish’ where she has painted special Diyas herself and they have asked the listeners to purchase the Diyas from them and then donate whatever they want to in return. The proceeds and collection will go towards those kids who are unable to hear.
“I would like to share the entire city has come forward to purchase Diyas from us. It is a noble cause. Very recently a cute kid of around five years came and gave me his ‘Gullak’ and said “You take this and return them the sense of hearing. So this is the impact of this activity,” added Meenakshi.
To her audience, she said, “You do so much for yourself throughout the year, this Diwali I would say that do something for others, that would give you true happiness. Burning crackers are similar to burning money. Make it of some use to people who need your money, support and care the most. That would be ‘Happy Diwali’ my friends.”
