MUMBAI: Soon to perform in India at the Sula Fest, Sameer Gadhia, lead vocalist of American alternative rock band Young the Giant, is of the opinion that Mumbai-based electro-rock music act Sky Rabbit “has lots of potential.”
Gadhia also said that Young the Giant does have some collaboration in the works; however remain tight-lipped when asked to elaborate. “That is a secret to be told another time,” he added, giving rise to speculation that Young the Giant could collaborate with Sky Rabbit.
The band, well known for their hit track ‘Cough Syrup’, is scheduled to perform at the Sula Fest in Nasik, which takes place on 7 and 8 February. When Radioandmusic.com asked Gadhia about how and when the band found out about their Sula Fest gig, he said, “It has been a few months in the making.” Asked how he feels about their first ever performance in India, Gadhia revealed, “I have been waiting with bated breath.”

We asked Gadhia if the band would premiere any new work at the Sula Fest. But, alas, “Even though we have been writing a lot, we will not be premiering anything just yet,” he said. He also said that the band is currently working on new material. So, we pushed to know how soon we could hear it. To that, Gadhia added, “Cannot say. We are keeping it close to our chests till the next trip.” Does that mean Young the Giant is coming back in India? Let the speculation begin.
On the previous two albums, Young the Giant had only worked with music producers Joe Chiccarelli and Justin-Mendal Johnsen. However, the band members have not yet made any final decisions on who they will be working with on the new album. “We are keeping everything very open-ended now, and are just focusing on the music,” said Gadhia.
The band will also be performing at the fourth Lollapalooza Brazil music festival this year, opening for Grammy winning, classic alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. When asked Gadhia about Young the Giant playing at Brazil, he said, “Although we have performed at the US Lolla, Brazil will be a whole different bag. Every festival is a dose of unreality. Feeling a part of this amazing musical culture is just surreal. We are excited to be opening for Smashing Pumpkins in Brasilia and Rio as well.”
