MUMBAI: Renowned Hindustani vocalist Shubha Mudgal is all set to perform a classical concert at the Ahmedabad International Arts Festival (AIAF) on 27 October in Ahmedabad.
The renowned singer will render a repertoire of sacred verses by great saints and poets of India in the session ‘Making Sacred, Songs of Love, Longing and Ecstasy’. Mudgal will be accompanied by renowned table player Aneesh Pradhan and harmonium player Sudhir Nayak.
Based on the theme of ‘Making Sacred’, this year’s edition of Ahmedabad International Arts Festival (AIAF) will also feature a session of listening sacred music ‘Pratha Swar’ which is selected by Viraj Amar. The session will be held on 28 October at Upasana School of Performing Arts from 9-11 am.
Exploring the regenerative process of love and healing through the language of the arts and literature, the fest has also organized a screening of Sufi films in its session ‘Wajjad – The Divine’. Curated and presented by Amrit Gangar from 10am to 6pm, the program will include films like Muzaffar Ali’s ‘Breathe into Me’, Tina Petrova’s ‘Rumi Turning Ecstatic’, Yousuf Saeed’s Basant Spring, Mehdi Perizad’s ‘The Fire Song’ and more.
AIAF will culminate on 28 October with a sacred performance by Shahi Quawals from Ajmer Shariff and Siddi Gomas from Baruch. The sacred concert ‘Seena Ba Seena’ will be curated by Sayed Salman Chishty from Chishty Foundation.
Apart from musical offering, the fest will also host wide array of art and culture events like exhibitions, workshops, performances and children’s workshops. Other events to take place in the fest include Sacred Cloths (a two-day workshop and exhibition of carved blocks and ritual cloths), An Exhibition of Serigraphs (workshop with traditional artisans and installations), An Exhibition of Calligraphy and Sacred Art by Chisty Foundation, An Exhibition of Photographic Works by Ruth Buck, Curated Walk at mosques and temples.
AIAF will also host devotional music and dance of Sidi African Indians from Gujarat. The venues of event varies from heritage homes, art galleries, art centres, mall, CEPT University, Sheth C N Vidyavihar, Sheth C N College of Fine Arts L D Museum, Upasana School of Performing Arts, Siddi Sayed ni Jali and National Institute of Design.
