MUMBAI: Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC), a choral group from Meghalaya will sing and perform in the inaugural episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 6’ with bollywood superstar and game show host Amitabh Bachchan.
The legend will render with the choir on a medley of songs, arranged by Neil Nongkynrih, the choir’s founder and conductor. The choir will belt out songs of patriotism like ‘Rang de Basanti’ and more, to inspire and motivate the audience.
Impressed by the performance of the team, Bachchan wrote in his blog, “By far, the most delightful moment of the day was meeting and seeing the Shillong Choir, a young group of boys and girls from the North East, performing some wonderful renditions of… ahah…cannot disclose all that just yet, songs. It was pretty ‘goose bumps’ material.”
“We were excited to sing along with the Bollywood superstar in ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. He (Bachchan) gelled so well with the boys and he also appreciated the performance of the choral group. The rest is now for you all to watch on the opening episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ on your TV screen this Friday,” Nongkynrih told IANS.
Besides, the choir will also hum the KBC song with Bachchan on the show set to go on-air from 7 September on Sony TV.
Earlier, the Choir had performed for the US President Barack Obama when he was on India visit. Formed in 2001, their repertoire includes works of western classical greats Handel, Bach, Gershwin and Mozart and Khasi folk songs apart from their own compositions. The group has also won three World Choir Games awards. Choir shot to fame after it won the reality talent show, India’s Got Talent (Season 2) in October 2010, where it performed western chorals, as well as choral-style revamps of Hindi film classics.
