MUMBAI: Music composer duo Dharam Bhatt and Sandeep Patil, who shot to fame in bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakht Charitra, Rann and Department, are all set to surprise fans with Satish Kaushik’s directorial venture ‘Gang of Ghosts’.
The duo has composed six tracks for Gang of Ghosts, a Hindi remake of Bengali blockbuster ‘Bhooter Bhabishyat’. Producer Ratan Jain (Venus Records & Tapes) has bought the rights of the 2012 film, which was a horror-based comic entertainer.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Sandeep says, “There are various genres of songs that we have covered for the movie. We have tried to take the audience on a journey back in time and create a nostalgia by being true to the sound of the 40s and late 70s . The soundscape goes from 40s to 70s to 2013.”
The music album is in the final stage of recording, mixing and mastering. “We plan to send the tracks to Abbey Road London for the final mastering of the songs,” adds Dharam.
In the past, Dharam-Sandeep have given background score in Main Aur Mrs Khanna, Rann, Rakht Charitra 1 and 2, Phoonk 2 and Department.
“Out of the six tracks, three are classically based with loads of live instruments and strings section influenced from the old school of music. The soundtrack will have a romantic song, a sad track, an item song and a rock song with a twist. We always try and adhere to the mood of the film and the director’s brief since they are the ones who know their film the best. It’s been fun working for Satish Kaushik and Ratan Jain,” Dharam adds.
Sandeep who started of singing in the school and church choir at a very early age, draws his influence from United States since he’s lived there for a couple of years. Dharam’s family is compulsive listeners of classical music and he started with keyboards. He studied audio engineering in London United Kingdom and this influenced his career in music.
The duo highlights that they enjoy both producing and composing. “Both have their highs, composing is an essential part of every song which is a melody, and producing is fun since we do it ourselves and it’s a stage where one can enhance the composition to its max potential.”
Apart from bollywood they are also working on non-film projects. “Bollywood music industry needs a tank full of melodies and an open-mindedness towards various and new genres. We are in the middle of two big projects, that will be announced soon. We are coming out with our singles which are more in the space of Electronic Dance Music (EDM),” says Sandeep.
Dharam adds, “The EPs (Electronic Productions) will feature collaborations with various Indian and International artist and will be out under our label DNS Studios.”
The film stars Mahie Gill, Sharman Joshi, Chunky Pandey, Anupam Kher and marks southern actress Meera Chopra`s entry into Bollywood. It went on floors last month.
