Saregama to launch revamped website next week

Mumbai: Saregama India`s website, under construction for almost two years, will be launched next week.The site will offer an interactive and entertaining interface to the users, say company officials.

The site, saregama.com, will help subscribers to download music and choose from a library of 3, 00,000 songs the company has acquired over the years. The RPG Enterprises owned Music Company, previously known as HMV, has also tied up with most major music labels to make their songs available for online download. T-Series and Sony BMG apart, most big labels have signed on for the venture, say company sources.

Through Saregama online music service, songs can be downloaded to PC, copied to CD, mobile, played on a portable iPod or another digital instrument.Single tracks can be downloaded at a cost of Rs 12 to Rs 15 via credit cards. The rates match that of Yash Raj Films music downloads and T-Series downloads being offered through their sites respectively.

Saregama India`s business manager – radio, Devahuti Choudhury says, “We have a huge data bank of songs. So it took us so long to design the site. But now we promise our costumers a user friendly and entertaining site.”

The software for the new servive has been developed and powered by mobile2win, it is understood. By last year, the company had already signed on 43 South Indian music labels. Saregama India already runs a service HamaraCD.com, which provides an option of creating your own audio CDs of your favourite songs. The music company has a vast catalogue cutting across all genres and languages, includes film music, devotional, ghazals and classical music, Indi pop, remixes and regional songs.Saregama had put up a selection of 40,000 songs on iTunes around 2003 and had received a `very good` response, say industry sources.
