MUMBAI: Saregama India launched Asha Bhosle’s new album ‘Precious Platinum’ at a suburban hotel on the occasion of the legendary singer’s 75th birthday on Monday.
The album boasts nine melodious tracks composed by Nitin Ramesh Shankar who frequently tours with the singer on her live shows.
“I recorded my first song way back in 1943 under the Saregama label, and today, as I turn 75, I am releasing an album under the same label,” said a nostalgic Asha. The versatile singer was accompanied by her son Anand Bhosle, who has taken ardent interest in the making of the album and the song videos.
Asha Bhosle has not play-backed for a long time; her latest being Aise Jalta hai Jiya from 1920. “We observed that, today the music is all beat oriented, with no real melody or soul – ‘Precious Platinum’ is made for some easy listening,” said the selective singer. Composer Nitin Ramesh added, “Ashaji is very particular about the song she sings, she hears it first and if she doesn’t like the song, she simply takes a step back.” Perhaps, that is the reason why we don’t hear Asha Bhosle doing playback in this peppy-beat Bollywood era.
All the songs from ‘Precious Platinum’ are romantic and radio-friendly. The album, besides being a collector’s item, also mentions the names of all the musicians who have contributed in the making – something rarely seen nowadays.
