MUMBAI: Mumbai based pop band Sanam just racked up one million subscribers on its YouTube channel on 10 November. The band comprises Sanam Puri, Samar Puri, Keshav Dhanraj and Venky S.
In the process, the artists have become the first Indian musicians to achieve this. In a country like India that doesn’t understand band culture, this is indeed a great success. Being an independent artist in India where the people are totally awestruck by Bollywood music, band Sanam’s achievement is totally controversy less success.
What does the success of having one million subscribers mean for Sanam? The official YouTube channel started in August 2012. “We used YouTube as a platform to put out our work and rest is God’s kindness to shower us with so much appreciation from across geographies,” they say.

Band manager Ben Thomas added, “I attribute this success to consistency, correct choices, staying rooted to your foundation and most of all the almighty.”
After India, countries with maximum followership are Bangladesh, Mauritius, USA, Pakistan, Nepal, UK, UAE, Maldives and Canada. It has been just four years of the formation of band Sanam, and it has headlined concerts in Dubai, Mauritius, Maldives, Bangladesh, Holland, Suriname and South Africa.
According to data, the Sanam channel has been getting in a month on an average of over 41 million minutes of watch time and over 16.6 million views. The channel has already been declared as the fastest growing channel in India by YouTube in March this year. The band is now set for an exponential increase.
