MUMBAI: Musical duo Salim-Sulaiman, having occupied centre stage in Bollywood by delivering hits are expanding their horizon and tapping zones outside B-town
The Merchant Bros have been roped in to compose a track for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 and would also be marking their regional debut in the Telugu film industry. They are also contemplating launching their first album this year
Relates Sulaiman enthusiastically, We have composed a track for Africa who would be hosting the FIFA World Cup this year. We have roped in Sidd Coutto from the band Tough on Tobacco to croon the number. It is an upbeat number with regional flavour to be released around FIFA….
The lead vocalist Sidd Coutto considers this as a big break having taken up to singing last year. I have been a drummer for Zero and am still associated with four bands, but the focus is being a vocalist for Tough on Tobacco. Salim heard my vocals and tracked me through Naresh Kamath of Kailasa and I was on….
Revealing more about the song, Coutto offers, The track is about Africa focusing on football and have an African flavour with regional chants in the background….
Apart from going international with the FIFA song, the Merchant brothers would also be entering the regional market with their Telugu debut. We are composing melody for the telugu movie and would soon have song writers penning lyrics in telugu. As we don’t understand the language we would compose on the basis of lyrical idea in Hindi and then translate in telugu. We might rope in Bollywood singers for playback for this project….
The composer duo also have their hands full on the Bollywood platter with Sohail Maklai forthcoming Knockout, an untitled project by Yashraj films and the animated movie- Koochie Koochie Hota Hai by Dharma Productions. As these projects are in different stages of productions, Sulaiman Merchant didn’t reveal much about these projects. Salim on the other hand, is busy being part of jury for Sony Entertainment Television’s music reality show- Indian Idol 5 these days.
