Roop Kumar Rathod composes for Marathi film Gulmohar

MUMBAI: Playback singer and composer Roop Kumar Rathod is debuting into the Marathi music industry with the movie Gulmohar… directed by Gajendra Ahire.

Speaking about the new initiative, Rathod says that he has always wanted to try his hand at something new. He says he considers Gajendra Ahire, the director of Gulmohar… a close friend and believes that he is a wonderful person to work with as he believes in a sensitive, creative and musical approach to life.

Describing the experience of working on a Marathi film as one to cherish, Roop Kumar says that his life has always been influenced by the language as he had grown up around Marathi speaking people.

He describes the Marathi music industry as different from the Bollywood music industry in the sense that Marathi people are an audience that comprise listeners who expect good variety and quality music and it is not just about the publicity and promotions.

Post his win on television reality show Mission Ustaad with wife Sunali Rathod, Roop Kumar says that if any good offers for a reality show come up in the future then he would be interested in participating in them.

Rathod and Sunali have collaborated together to make an album- Manpasand which will release in April. He describes the album as commercial, fun and youth oriented. He has also lent his vocals to the Salman Khan starrer Veer which will release this year and Rang Rasiya, an Indian drama film directed and co-produced by Ketan Mehta that is based on the life of the 19th century Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma.

He had composed the title track for the series Special@10 on Sony TV and will be doing the same for Jhansi Ki Rani on Zee TV which will be based on the life of Rani Laxmibai and her fight for our freedom 

Roop Kumar has lent his vocals as playback singer in movies such as Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Coffee House, Drona, Anwar, Veer Zaara, Lakshya, Jism and many more. He has also composed the music for Zeher, Madhoshi and Who Tera Naam Tha.
