MUMBAI: The Rolling Stones have been nominated in multiple categories for music magazine NME.
The legendary British band recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2012 releasing their greatest hits album, a documentary film undertaking a mini tour in the UK and US. The band is nominated in four categories- Best Live Band, Best Book, Music Moment of the Year and Best Music Film.
“When I first heard it was four things, I thought, ‘Ooh, blimey! That’s very nice!'” It’s funny, because when we were rehearsing at Wembley Arena last year, it was where we used to do the NME Poll winners. We remembered, it was the first time we ever played ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, at one of those Poll winners concerts,” Stones lead singer Mick Jagger said.
Other bands with four nominations include upcoming sisters’ act ‘Haim’, Australian rock band ‘Tame Impala’ and British alternative hip hop artist ‘MIA.’
Also nominated in three categories is another British pop legend David Bowie who unexpectedly released his first new music earlier in January with a new album expected in March.
Russian punk band Pussy Riot was shortlisted in the music moment of the year category for their protest against President Vladimir Putin in Moscow’s main cathedral that landed some of them in jail.
“All the early plaudits will go to Haim, Tame Impala, M.I.A. and the legendary Rolling Stones but it’s testament to the exquisite taste of the NME audience that artists as wide ranged as Frank Ocean, Jake Bugg, Pussy Riot and David Bowie are recognized too,” said NME editor Mike Williams.
Music magazine NME’s nominations for 2013 awards were decided by fans voting online. The winners will be announced at The Troxy in east London on 27 February.
