MUMBAI: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of nominations for 2014 and some of rock’s most iconic bands have made the cut. Half of the 16 nominees are first-timers including Nirvana, The Replacements, Hall and Oates, Link Wray, Linda Ronstadt, YES, The Zombies and Peter Gabriel. The other artistes competing in the class of 2014 include repeat nominees Deep Purple, Chic, Cat Stevens, Kiss, LL Cool J, The Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and N.W.A.
For a second year running, fans will get a chance to vote alongside members of the Rock Hall voting body which consists of 600 of the music industry’s insiders, historians and artists. The top five acts will make up a ‘fan’s ballot’ and will be used as a single vote in selecting 2014’s inductees. Voting for fans is open until 10 December on the official Rock Hall site and Rolling Stone.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014’s nominees include a broad field of rock acts, some of which do not conform to the general notion of rock and roll artistes. To be eligible for a nomination, this year’s inductees need to have released a debut album or single 25 years ago. This would ideally mean that the nominees would have released their first recording by 1988. Acts who receive the most votes will be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York City on 10 April.
