Picturesque Coorg is set to host the second edition of Storm Music Festival from 1-2 February rolling out the year’s music fest. A galaxy of international DJs is set to spin some world-class Electronic Dance Music (EDM) during the two-day fest.
Radioandmusic.com caught up with two of the DJs- Moscow based DJ Bobina and Michael Woods formerly known as Warrior before they spun their music at Coorg.
Bobina: Moscow based Bobina aka DJ, producer & label impresario Dmitry Almazov is at the cutting edge of Russia’s electronic dance music scene. His DJ adventures have taken him around the planet – from playing tent-pole events like Gatecrasher Summer Soundsystem to Trance Energy. Through his label, World Club Music, Bobina has been the single greatest catalyzing factor in the Federation-side careers of Armin, Tiësto & Above & Beyond, releasing their artist albums. On the production front he has released numerous singles, four critically acclaimed artist albums.

How excited are you to perform in front of an Indian audience?
Indian audiences have always made me feel welcome. I have played in locations like Goa etc. My experiences have really been fabulous. Indian audiences are very evolved. I am sure the Storm festival will be very exciting.
What attracted you to perform at Storm 2013?
I will be playing for the first time at the Storm festival .I had heard about it and I really like the quality of programming they have. I have never played in a single festival space in India before, as I have mainly played only at clubs. I am really looking forward to it.
EDM is winning over many fans in India—do you think this is a passing phase or something that is here to stay?
I think it’s really growing in India. India was known for Goa trance earlier but as I started to play in India three years back and since then I have noticed that the requests have become more sophisticated now.
Where do you see EDM heading in the next few years globally?
Its growing everywhere…I’m getting requests from countries I have never played in before. Like the .former USSR countries, the Philippines…people are learning more about EDM and people want to hear it more.
Michael Woods: Initially known as Warrior, he scored his first hits in 2000 with debut single ‘Warrior’ and the follow-up ‘Voodoo’. Warrior’ topped the UK Club Chart, and also did well in the top 40. Voodoo was also top 40 hit. He also released ambient trance singles on Lost Language under the name ‘Accadia’. He found fame in 2003 for ‘If U Want Me’ and ‘Close To The Edge’.
The festival has a very eclectic line up of artist. What can you offer fans?
I’ll be playing a lot of my own new productions with styles varying from a more techno-sound to electro to progressive. I may even throw in a little trap just to keep the crowd on their toes.
What are the similarities and differences between music fests in India and say, Europe apart from the scale and infrastructure?
Indian fans are real fans of the music and that’s why they come to the festivals. I was astonished at the level of energy that came from the crowd- its right up there in line with the best festivals in the world.
Is this your first trip to India?
I have played a number of times in India, one of those times was in Goa and the crowd was simply amazing. And it’s the reaction of the crowd that has drawn me back to play in India. Last time I played there I had the time of my life as the Indian crowd had so much energy. I can’t wait to get behind the decks in front of the Indian Crowd
