MUMBAI: A pioneering flame that courageously lit the path for music and India was extinguished on 12 July with the passing away of Bose Corporation founder and path breaking entrepreneur Dr Amar Gopal Bose. With his demise, Bose (1929- 2013) has left a void. He built his $ 1.8 billion Bose Corporation on old-school philosophy of love, genius, hard-work and foresight.
As music lovers, musicians and professionals all over the world have mourned the passing away of the man who revolutionalised how music is heard and enjoyed, Radioandmusic.com too salutes the man through some of the country’s top musicians who pay tribute to the man who enriched their lives in so many ways.
“The name ‘Bose’ said it all. The product inspired a lot of confidence in me as a performer because he was an incredible person and so was the company he founded. I really can’t say if the world will ‘miss’ him because we are now living in a programmed world where people are quickly replaced. But as a founder and a genius he will be missed,” musician- singer Gary Lawyer said.
For singer-songwriter Shibani Kashyap, Bose was to the music industry what Steve Jobs was to IT.
“Possessing a Bose product was a must for every music lover. Their products from radio, headphones to home theatre systems were all beautiful. Bose as a person was a proactive man- the Steve Jobs of music industry. It remains to be seen if they maintain can preserve his legacy through their products.”
“He made what in my opinion are some of the best home and personal audio listening products. I think people all over the world immediately recognise Bose as a quality name in sound.
I personally had the Bose IE2 in ear headphones and I thought that they were the best sounding headphones I ever had,” founder-frontman, Mihir Joshi Band and RJ, Mihir Joshi said.
For veteran rock-pop star Remo Fernandes, Bose’s contribution to music and success he achieved goes well beyond the industry where he has been saluted by musicians and corporate world alike.
“It was a shame that the country that an innovator likes Bose was given so many hurdles and harassment by authorities in charge of encouraging entrepreneurs. He had to leave India to create the products and the brand. Everybody knows how fantastic and revolutionary his products were. But we should also remember how the ‘babus’, bureaucrats and the government treated him.”
Bose’s admirers cut across generation, each discovering the depth of his vision and quality of his company’s products.
“ Bose products have a reputation for being way above the average and expensive too, but I think they are worth every penny. A Rs 25,000 pair of headphones might seem expensive but they are worth the price. He was a pillar behind creating sound and producing good sound systems for people who valued sound and music.
The world moves on and I believe Bose would have had a good team in place to take ahead his legacy. But few will have his vision and ability to bring it to life,” singer Akriti Kakkar said.
