MUMBAI: Recording Industry Association of America has named Cary Sherman as chairman and CEO. Sherman, joined the RIAA as general counsel in 1997, and has served as president of the organization since 2001.
Sherman, 63, takes the role on 1 September and succeeds Mitch Bainwol, 52, who has resigned to become chief executive of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
The RIAA has also promoted Mitch Glazier as senior executive vice president.
The RIAA represents recording labels including Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Group Ltd., Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
RIAA’s plays important role in combating illegal music downloads and other forms of digital piracy, and guiding the industry as it introduces legal alternatives for consumers to buy music online.
