MUMBAI: Music composer A R Rahman and actor Kartina Kaif launched Saregama India’s kids album Rhymeskool Vol. 1 on May 13, 2010. The music of this album is composed by students of A R Rahman’s Chennai based music school KM Music Conservatory, and supervised by A R Rahman.
Katrina Kaif features as a narrator, and since it was for kids, Kaif did it for free
“I was only happy to give some of my time to it,” she said.
The album gives a fresh take on some of the old rhyme’s we have grown up listening as kids (like twinkle, twinkle). In addition, there are several new rhyme’s on the album. The media got a preview of two rhyme’s – ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’, and a newly composed Rhyme ‘Flowers’
A visibly surprised Kaif said, “You guys have turned Twinkle Twinkle into a rap song! I was shocked to hear that. I have always remembered it as something very simple and sweet, but I guess times are changing.”
Rahman laughed off, and said, “My son owns a i-pad, and he downloads applications that even I don’t use.” Hinting at how preferences and tastes of kids are changing nowadays
John Anthony, Rahman’s bandmate from his first band ‘Roots’, was also present at the launch. Besides Rahman, Anthony was instrumental in guiding Rahman’s music school students on this project.
With this album, Saregama India, the music label, forays into edutainment.
