MUMBAI: 9X Jalwa, will delight music lovers with evergreen songs of music genius RD Burman (Pancham da) on his 74th birth anniversary.
9X Jalwa, touted as a ‘timeless Bollywood music channel’ will air maestro’s songs from 7am to 10am on ‘Blockbuster Beats’ and from 8pm-11pm on its evening segment ‘Love Sweet Love’, providing six hours of Burman songs.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, 9X Media Group senior VP and content head Amar Tidke says, “There is a special packaging that is developed around RD Burman’s birth anniversary. We plan to play an average of 70-80 songs throughout the six hours covering romance and comedy.”
9X Jalwa, launched in 2012 features classic Bollywood music from 1965 till 2000. Tidke states, “Our target audience is 25+ who are very loyal and we hope to engage more viewers with such programming.”

From the 1960 to the 1990’s, Burman has composed musical scores for 331 movies.
RD Burman was born in a Bengali family to legendary music composer/singer Sachin Dev Burman and his lyricist wife Meera Dev Burman in Calcutta.
He died at the age of 54, leaving behind a treasure trove of music that still remains an inspiration for many; be it the present or the coming generation. This sheer musical genius will always remain in the heart of millions for his invaluable contribution to the Indian Music Industry.
