MUMBAI: San Francisco based Rdio has acquired the music streaming site Dhingana. Launched in August 2010, Rdio through this acquisition is trying to reach Indian audiences based in India and overseas. And later this year, Rdio will be launched in India.
The streaming service stated that since it was in a transition stage, it was maintaining a ‘quiet’ period when the initial reports of Dhingana’s closure surfaced. Dhingana’s team in India will join Rdio and helping them with their expansion plans in India and several other emerging markets as well. It will also provide millions of users world over the change to access a rich and extensive Indian musical catalog.
Co-founder of Dhingana, Snehal Shinde said, “Over the past seven years, Dhingana has worked hard to build a music platform that allows millions of users around the world to enjoy the diverse music of India, including a massive Bollywood catalog. We’re excited to continue this mission and further our reach with Rdio. We look forward to working toward a unified launch in India through the Rdio brand in the near future.”
