Rana Chatterji brings alive musical legends

MUMBAI: Legendary singers like Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar and many more came alive with their songs, in the voice of versatile singer Rana Chatterji. He sang some 32 odd songs at ‘Nazrana-Resonant Range of Rana’ on 19 December organised by the so called music gemologist Manohar Iyer at the Yashwant Natya Mandir.

Immortal songs of other legendary singers like Saigal, Surendra, Mukesh, Talat Mahmood, Hemant Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor, were also sung, bringing back an era of music.Dev Jyoti popularly known as Rana Chatterji  is known for his wide variety of songs in several moods and styles.

Speaking to Radioandmusic.com, Chatterji said, “I was inspired to sing by listening to songs of 80’s and 90’s as old songs and their words remain in people’s mind.”

In spite of training himself in Classical Hindustani music for v for five years, he never wished to enter into pure classical music being yet another reason for singing the old songs.

All throughout the evening, Manohar Iyer unfolded the professional and personal life of Chatterji. “I know him from ten years now and I always praised him in his shows. Rana was known as a Manna Dey singer but by this show I wanted to show his versatility,” he observed.

Chatterji was accompanied by Vrushali Patil, classical singer for 10 years and Radhika Nanday, ex participant of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little champs. So much so, that his wife Tripti also accompanied him when the two sang a duet from Amanush, Saara Pyaar Tumhara…
