Excerpts:
You are back on the music scene after a long hiatus. Why the long absence?
I took a five year hiatus but I have been back from the past one-and a-half years during which I’ve released two international singles, a music video, formed a band called ‘42’, toured a lot with the Petri Dish Project, sang jingles, judged a show on MTV, hosted shows for ESPN and Bindass, performed live on stage as a singer, played the lead role in Broadway and Beyond (a musical) and also hosted numerous live events – from awards to festivals to corporate events. So I have been juggling several hats all at once.
Can you share with us a little about your single ‘Hello World’
‘Hello World’ is a fun single which celebrates life and the joy of being alive despite all the bumps and glitches on the way. I will be releasing it on the label 925 Music.
Share your view on today’s music scene. Given an opportunity, will you sing or compose music for a Bollywood film?
Music is always good. But like everything, it is also a business and everyone wants to make their money at the end of the day. I wouldn’t call Bollywood bad for the music scene as such. It caters to the masses. I would love to sing or compose music for a Bollywood film. I haven’t done too much in Hindi so it’d be a very exciting experience and would give me an opportunity to learn. Indian music would obviously be more predominant in India, but it is fair to say the market for independent artistes is growing here too as a result of the hard work by persistent artists, companies like OML (Only Much louder) and very supportive audiences.
EDM seems to be the ‘best’ way for many artists to get noticed in the industry. Please comment.
Well I don’t know if it’s ‘the best’ way. For people to truly notice you and take you seriously, you have to possess talent to begin with, practice religiously, do a lot of gigs, find yourself an amazing manager and PR person. There are also digital platforms like Youtube which have helped in making many people famous. Justin Bieber is a perfect example of one of them.
Do you see yourself as an entertainer or as an artist?
I see myself as both and I like to believe that my art entertains people. So it’s like a combination of both.
Where do you see your career five years from now?
I am very spontaneous so I tend not to plan anything as far as I’m concerned or about my future. Who knows what could happen even five minutes from now? But I wish that no matter what I’m doing in five years time, I stay happy and healthy.
