MUMBAI: Santoor maestro Rahul Sharma is directing the music of Vivek Agnihotri’s new film-‘Freedom’. The santoor player made his debut as music director 10 years ago with Yash Raj Films (YRF) ‘Mujse Dosti Karoge’. His new project came about after Agnihotri listened to his compositions with Kenny G.
“Vivek loved some of my CDs with Kenny G- a classical base with Western style. The music style on his film will be electro-classical rock sound which fits the backdrop of his film which is based in the 80s-90s,” he said.
Sharma was of the opinion that making an album or collaborating with another musician offered more freedom, while a music director’s role had the challenge of being able to meet the director’s requirement and vision.
“I’d like to do a film (as a music director) once in a couple of years but my focus will always be on my santoor and music. It’s not true that I will take up film projects because the album market has gone down. It’s all due to piracy, and not just music albums but the film industry is suffering too. I’d like to balance both my music career and film projects,” he said.
