Radio stations build up mood for Holi celebration

MUMBAI: It’s the third month of the year and one of the major Indian festivals, Holi, is back to bring joy and warmth with its vibrant colours. The festival of colours is celebrated with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm across the country and this year would be no different. While, many have decided to make joy and mirth, fun and play, music and dance, some have restricted themselves to eco-friendly Holi.

Radioandmusic.com takes you through the plans of leading radio stations on how will they engage and celebrate Holi with listeners from across the country.

On the occasion of Holi, Radio Mirchi will keep up to the mood of the festival by playing high energy and Holi songs from 8am in the morning right up to 2pm celebrating the mood of the festival and the city. The radio jockeys will go live with Holi updates and festive talks throughout the day. The popular Mirchi jingle will once again adapt the flavour of the season and beat to the pulse of the city, the entire soundscape will be drenched in Holi spirit. Moreover, RJ Jeeturaaj on Mumbai’s favourite morning show ‘Hi Mumbai’ has initiated the #WaterlessHoli movement on air and on Twitter, which has won favour and overwhelming response of Mumbaikars. Mirchi is celebrating Holi which is high on spirits and low on wastage (Waterless).

Radio City takes a very different approach towards Holi this time. The station is of the opinion that Maharashtra is facing the biggest drought since 1972 so it says that for the first time on radio they will peep into the lives of farmers and bring to Mumbai their life perspective , their little expectations and daily struggle to survive. RJ Rohit Vir will be bringing up the sad plight of these farmers on ‘Taka Tak Mumbai’ on the day of Holi and Radio City vouches for an eco-friendly holi this time.

Similarly, Big FM is reinforcing the message to save water and celebrate a water-free Holi with its unique campaign ‘Ye Holi Paani Ke Saath Nahi, Harsh Aur Raani Ke Saath Manao’.

In an effort to spread maximum awareness, Big FM urges its listeners to register with the station via SMS and pledge their dedication to the environment by promising to celebrate a dry Holi. These supporters of the environment can also look forward to a great treat in store as RJs Harsh and Rani will visit their societies and make their Holi celebrations super special followed by a big surprise for them. The campaign is being promoted extensively on-air with RJs highlighting Holi-related facts and statistics.
