Radio One Pune goes classical with Pandit Jasraj concert

MUMBAI: In a bid to stay away from the herd of radio broadcasters airing festive content, Radio One has organized a special on-ground initiative for its listeners on the occasion of Diwali. Renowned classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj will perform live on 6 November at Shaniwarwada Lawns in Pune.

Titled ‘Deepotsav’, the two hour concert will witness the stalwart performing bhakti geet and mantras like Mata Kali mantra, Mahalaxmi shloka and more. He will be accompanied by a set of musicians including singers and tabla players amongst others.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com about the concert, Pandit Jasraj said, “I am very happy to perform at the Diwali concert organized by Radio One. I am very fond of radio as a medium because it has made me what I am today and has also built the careers of many others like Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Bhimsen Joshi.”

Radio One Pune station head Sabina Sanghvi said, “We host musical concerts for our listeners in every quarter. In the past, artistes like Kunal Ganjawala and Kailash Kher have associated with us. This time we wanted to go classical and ring in Diwali with special ragas connected to the festival. We are expecting an audience of 1500 people and aim to make it a success.”

Apart from Radio One concert, the Sangeet Martand will also perform for a leading daily on 16 November in Madras and an annual concert ‘Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh’ from 29 November to 1 December in Hyderabad which will be held in memory of his late father.
