MUMBAI: Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and other world renowned flautist will perform at the third edition of Raasrang World Flute Festival. The three-dayfest will commence from 9 August in New Delhi.
Other artistes include Grammy nominee Nawang Khechog, USA based young flautist Pravin Godhkindi, Lalit Kala Akademi chairman Ashok Vajpeyi, Pt. Ajay Prasana, fashion designer Nida Mahmood and former ambassador of India and chief vigilance officer in the Ministry of External Affairs Dr Bhaskar Balakrishnan.
Pandit Chaurasia said, “The flute is an instrument of divine seduction. It is known to draw you to your center. Simply put, the sonorous flute celebrates the law of focus, so crucial to efficiency and productivity.”
Following the festival theme, world musician will play a variety of wind instrument rendering artistically on a plethora of materials such as bamboo, stone, canvas, lithographs etc. The event is organized by Krishna Prerna Foundation
Navin Kumar who has worked with AR Rahman and composed songs like ‘Jiya Jale’ and ‘Jai Ho’ said, “If you are travelling to India during the romantic monsoons, Raasrang World Flute Festival is an experience for all. The festival will be on the day of Janamashtmi, birthday of Lord Krishna, an icon of flute-playing.”
The fest will also display treasured rare fluteS like Narh or Narr-Kani, Alghoza or JodiaPawa, Morsing, Been, Surnai, Kullu Metal Flute, Nadaswaram. The fest will also host another event Raasrang Percussion Festival in November 2012.
Raasrang fest has been organized in India since since 2000. The most recent Raasrang Holi Utsav celebration was held at Dilli Haat, INA, and showcased Holi as it is traditionally played to over 20,000 gathering.
