Pt. Birju Maharaj, Girija Devi to perform at SPIC MACAY’s convention

MUMBAI: SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) will be conducting its 26th National Convention at Ravenshaw University, Odisha from 23rd May to 29th May.

SPIC MACAY will be a weeklong program of classical music, dance, folk, theatre, films, Yoga and holistic food. The last convention was held at IIT Kanpur which was attended by about 1200 delegates from all over India, this year more than 1200 students and 400 guests are expected, states the release.

The event will have performance by renowned singers including Girija Devi (Vocal),  Prof. Madan Gopal Singh (Sufi), Ms. Sujata, Venkatesh Kumar (Vocalist), Pt. Venkatesh Kumar (Hindustani Vocal), Vidwan T V Sankarnarayanan (Carnatic Vocal), Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra (Hindustani Vocal), Guru Ramahari Das (Odissi vocal) and Dr. Madan Gopal Singh (Sufi).

Musicians like Ustad Bahauddin Dagar (Rudra Veena), Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Khayal), Pandit Ulhas N Kashalkar, U. Srinivas, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami (Khayal), Ustad Asad Ali Khan, and Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan will also be performing.

The event also includes performances by other artist namely Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj (Kathak), Vidushi Sujata Mohapatra (Odissi dancer), Vidushi Methil Devika (Kuchipudi), Dr. Ileana Citaristi (Odissi), Guru C. V. Chandrasekhar (Bharatnatyam), Vidushi Kapila Venu and Kalamandalam Mohanakrishnan (Ottan Thullal).

SPIC MACAY’s 26th National Convention be inaugurated by Governor of Odisha – Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, Chief Mininster of Odisha – Navin Patnaik, Minster of Youth affairs and Sports – GoI Sh and Ajay Maken.
