MUMBAI: If you are still obsessing over Coshish’s special limited edition DVD box ‘Mukti’ and debut album ‘Firdous’, the prog-rock band might soon add one more thing to your list of must-haves. The band revealed that it is working on a new album, which will be a “surprise” to its fans.

From winning accolades like Radio City Freedom Award for Best Rock Band 2014 to getting featured in the international media, Coshish, which consists of Mangesh Gandhi (Vocals and Rhythm Guitars), Shrikant Sreenivasan (Lead Guitars), Hamza Kazi (Drums) and Anish Nair (Bass), has seen growing takers for their music. The band, who is signed under Universal Music India and had recently released a special limited edition DVD box set titled ‘Mukti’, have already written two songs for the new album. Gandhi said, “We have started working on our upcoming album and the songs will be really different; it cannot be compared to our previous work. We are surprised with the way it has shaped up so far.”

Agreeing with the front-man, Sreenivasan stated that the new material the band is working on is pretty exciting. “We are working on the skeleton of the album. As far as, the concept goes we are pretty much clear and we are on a right track.” Talking about the sound, Sreenivasan described it as “heavier” and Gandhi termed it as “more trippy,” adding that the songs will be slightly lengthy as well.

However, fans might have to wait a while to listen to the new album. “Five years or it might happen pretty quickly,” Gandhi teased. On a slightly more serious note, Sreenivasan added that it could happen sooner than five years. The Mumbai-based band has a clear idea about the new album; however, Gandhi and Sreenivasan were tight-lipped about the theme of it. They, however, did reveal that there are big plans for the album, and it will be a huge surprise.

Gandhi, who is writing all the songs for the album said, “There are really weird concepts that have emerged for the album, and I will have to express it with music. That could be a little challenging. I want our fans to connect with us.”

Moreover, Gandhi and Sreenivasan are working separately on different projects with various other musicians. Gandhi is currently working on electronica and folk projects, which he does not want to reveal much about it or the musicians he is working with. However, Sreenivasan was more open about his Marathi project. He said, “I am doing couple of projects. I am open to all kinds of music genres. I am working on a Marathi movie with Soham Pathak from the band Sparsh.”

The four-member band will next be seen playing gigs in Northern India this year, and are in talks with colleges in Mumbai for more live performances. Coshish believes that since the launch of their DVD album, there has been a buzz around the college circuit regarding the band. So, they are more hopeful of playing in Mumbai.
