MUMBAI: 2012 box office hit ‘Barfi’ continued its magical run with a bucketful of awards at the recently concluded 14th India International Film Academy (IIFA) Awards at Macau.
Pritam took home the best music director and best background score for Barfi, while Amitabh Bhattacharya bagged the best lyrics award for ‘Abhi Mujhme Kahi’ from Agneepath. Versatile singer Sonu Nigam was adjudged as the best playback singer male for ‘Abhi Mujhme Kahi’ from Agneepath, and Shreya Ghoshal took the best playback singer female award for ‘Chikni Chameli’ from Agneepath.
Sweeping the ‘Indian Oscars’ Anurag Basu’s film with a physically disabled hero received 14 awards in all including best picture, best director (Anurag Basu), best actor in leading role (Ranbir Kapoor), best music (Pritam), best story (Anurag Basu and Tani Basu) and best background score (Pritam) .
IIFA also paid tribute to the late Yash Chopra who passed away in October 2012. The director was bestowed with the IIFA Forever Award for his phenomenal contributions to Indian Cinema. The event also honoured veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar with lifetime-achievement awards.
Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor hosted the evening’s awards.
The 15th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards would be held in Florida next year.
