MUMBAI: Instrumentalist, composer and world fusion music pioneer Prem Joshua’s 14th album with Music Today, Luminous Secrets, was launched in Delhi. The album continues the spiritual and world music journey of Joshua with Music Today, following earlier albums like Sky Kisses Earth, Mudra, Desert Vision, Hamsafar, Water Down the Ganges, Dance of Shakti & Yatri.
Joshua’s music is a musical masala of Indian classical, jazz, funk, ethno and trance music tastefully blended for a global appeal.
In this latest release, Prem Joshua and his international musicians take another bold step towards a completely fresh meeting beyond the limits of East and West and create a new synthesis in sound. Ancient Indian ragas spread their mysterious and subtle fragrances in a modern sound ambience and the famous Eastern mystic poets Meera, Kabir and Hafiz sing to us again as contemporaries.
The album brings to the fore Joshua’s style with melodies of the sitar, bamboo flute and soprano sax over tabla rhythms. With his talent for fusion, mixing meditative classical Indian ragas with energetic compositions, modern sounds and grooves he once again creates unique music.
About Prem Joshua: Born in Germany, Joshua learned the flute at the age of five and played the flute and the saxophone for various local bands. At the age of 18, he traveled overland to India, studying the indigenous folk music of countries along the way.
On reaching India, Joshua learned to play the sitar from Ustad Usman Khan and Osho. Osho inspired him and his music. His website states, “In the presence of this man with a long white beard, eyes as deep as the ocean and a strong sense of humor, he came in touch with the art of the inner music… – Silence. This was really coming home!”
Throughout his career, Joshua has experimented with various forms of music, creating a blend of the East and the West. He has also worked extensively with other producers, making remixes of his own songs and infusing traditional Hindustani acoustic instruments with lounge and trance beats. His music has immensely contributed to the Asian Underground and fusion scene.
To date, he has released 14 albums under his name and played on countless studio recordings. He has traveled the world numerous times and plays to an ever increasing number of music lovers, inspiring them with a musical message that reaches beyond the borders of tradition, politics, religion and belief.
