MUMBAI: Pratichee Mohapatra, the youngest sister to famed Bollywood singer- Sona Mohapatra, is carving a space for herself in the music industry with a YouTube channel and an upcoming album. Her YouTube channel was launched three months ago, with MCN- One Digital, and since then, she has released a couple of videos. Of those, the more recent one is a cover of the retro song ‘Mausam Hai Aashiqana’ from the film ‘Pakeezah’, and the music video for the track features the younger Mohapatra.
“Since the channel is very new, I wanted to do a few covers and then proceed to put out original content. ‘Mausam Hai Aashiqana’ is a song that I have grown up listening to, and I wanted to pick songs that are not obvious choices for covers,” said Mohapatra about her YouTube channel.
The singer also revealed that her third single will be released in October. With it, she will have completed work on her solo album, which she says has “explored a completely new side” to her. “For the first time, I will be a singer songwriter because I have written a few songs, and have even composed them,” said Mohapatra.

In addition to being a solo singer, she is also a part of the rock band Chikaraks, which caters to the musical needs of children between the ages of two and eight. Along with Mohapatra, the band includes Fiona D’Souza, Chin2 Bhosale and Manav Dhanda, most of whom are parents. The band started out with a view of creating music that is suitable for children. “I think, today, kids are not exposed to the right kind of music. Putting up red lipstick to kids and exposing them to vulgar content is not cute. We are teaching children to objectify at a very early age,” she explained. The band has now been signed by Sony Music.
Mohapatra also went on to say that her older sisters, Madhumita and Sona, inspire her. “They are both accomplished singers, and they guide me with my career. Apart from being great at their work, they have strong personalities. For that matter, Sona does not bother about her celebrity status and truly stands for what she believes is right. Both the sisters are my idols,” she elucidated.
The singer, who was at one time part of the band Viva, crooned a track for a South Indian film, and she intends to further explore the regional space.
