Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason Okay with reunion (suggested)

MUMBAI: Could a reunion be on the cards for the legendary English rock band Pink Floyd? It certainly could be after drummer for the band, Nick Mason, revealed his interest in staging one. Giving fans a reason to joyfully hope, Mason said that he would be ready for a reunion if other members of the band are willing. However, he did admit that if the band (which formed in 1965) played together again it would have to be for an awareness event or a charity. The year also marks the 40 anniversary of Pink Floyd’s generation defining Billboard chart topping album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’.

Post its 1985 split, the psychedelic rock band has only played together twice. The first in 2005 for the ‘Live 8’ fundraising gig and the other in 2011 for bassist and lead vocalist Roger Waters’ The Wall Show at London’s O2 Arena. Waters acrimoniously sought damages from his former band mates- David Gilmore and Mason for the on-going use of the band’s songs and name. But recently he confessed he felt guilty for taking legal action against the band.

Staying relevant to changing times, the band’s catalogue was added to popular music streaming service Spotify- early in the year- a move the band had resisted because it wanted people to listen to its complete albums. However, since its addition to Spotify, the band’s famous track ‘Wish You Were Here’ has streamed a million times.
