MUMBAI: Percept Media has acquired the music rights of ‘Ramchand Pakistani’, the directorial debut of Mehreen Jabbar.
The music, as well as the satellite rights of the film have been acquired by the production house for a period of five years.
The songs of the movie have been composed by Debojyoti Mishra, who has also composed for movies like Chokher Bali, Raincot to name a few. The music rights have not yet sold to any label, and the production house is still in talks with music labels, officials say.

“The company will be sharing the profit revenue of the music with the music label,” says Percept Media Director IPR- distribution manager Ashok Ahuja. “The music rights in Pakistan are with Geo Music, we only have the Indian music rights.”
The album has four original tracks and an instrumental track. The songs have a touch of classic folk song from Sindh. A few songs in the movie have been picturised, while the others form the background of the movie.
The title track of the album has been sung by Shubha Mudgal, while two tracks have been rendered by Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali. The lyrics of the album are written by Pakistani lyricist Anwar Maqsood.
Music director Debojyoti Mishra says, “The music is very melodious and talks about various moments of life. We have used various instruments from Iran and Turkey in the album which gives it a global essence.”
Ramchand Pakistani is derived from a true story concerning the accidental crossing of the Pakistan-Indian border. The story dates during a period (June 2002) of extreme, war-like tension between the two countries by two members.
It’s about a Pakistani Hindu family belonging to the ‘untouchable’ (Dalit) caste, and the extraordinary consequences of this unintended action upon the lives of a woman, a man, and their son.
