MUMBAI: The vocalist of the renowned 80s pop rock outfit Vital Signs – Junaid Jamshed – died in the PIA plane crash in Pakistan’s northern region Abottabad that killed 47 passengers. Reports from Pakistani media suggest that Jamshed’s wife, too, died in the unfortunate incident.
Junaid achieved recognition in Pakistan and beyond after he joined the band ‘Vital Signs’ and released ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ on 14 August 1987. The vocalist continued to perform for Vital Signs till 1998, four years after releasing his solo effort ‘Tumhara Aur Mera Naam’ in 1994. The association with Vital Signs ended towards the end of the decade, and the solo career, although began with commercial success, could not sustain for long.
Near to the start of the new century, Jamshed and other musicians from Pakistan faced complications with world tours, and the vocalist soon started drifting away from music. The lack of media interaction followed with low profile further provided concrete to the speculations concerning the musician’s future.

Jamshed wanted to pursue engineering and join the Pakistani Air Force, however, after unofficially quitting music, the songwriter soon became a mullah. Earlier this year, Jamshed was assaulted at the Islamabad airport for a controversial remark posted on his Facebook.
