MUMBAI: The hit song ‘Tamma Tamma Loge’ from the 1990 blockbuster Thaanedar starring Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit has made a comeback this year with the movie Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The song is best remembered for the quirky dance steps and catchy lyrics. It was a chartbuster in its time.
Apart from the reprised version in ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, there are numerous DJs who have turned this classic item number into a club mix. With heavy beats and synth layers, DJ Sevix has given this old dance number a modern character making it an apt number on a Bollywood night.
Come to think of it, it has pretty much become a trend in Bollywood right now to dig out songs from past albums and movies to use in the recent ones. This is probably an attempt to add more commercial value owing to the goodwill of the songs.

If there was this weird sense of de ja vu when you first heard ‘Main Hoon Deewana Tera’ from the 2015 movie ‘Ek Paheli Leela’ don’t freak out. It’s just a bunch of lazy music directors who thought adding a song from Sonu Nigam’s age old album might just make the movie better. Although one such rendition that was not received well by the audience was that of ‘Humma Humma’, a classic AR Rahman number from the cult movie ‘Bombay’. It was rather a pretty lame move to recreate a classic by one of the musical gods and distorting it with unnecessary raps and visible forced attempts to make people dance. AR achieved that without even trying so hard. The rendition itself did not gain much popularity but managed to bring this age old track back on the charts and did attract attention to the movie.
Be it a genuine attempt at portraying one’s take on a song to recreating it solely for commercial purposes, remix and renditions have always been a staple on B-town’s menu.
With its latest recreation of ‘Tamma Tamma’, director Shashank Khaitan has successfully managed to create the required buzz.
Laying down some infectious moves, the ‘Student of the Year’ duo has brought back to life this yesteryear’s song featuring Badshah to add to the flavour. The catchy tune of the song has always been the USP but with the touch of some modern trance, it won’t be a surprise if this song turns out to be the next club hit.
