MUMBAI: The Ketevan World Sacred Music Festival kicked off in Old Goa on 12 February 2016.
This music festival unites pleasing musical traditions from the East and the West. The Ketevan Sacred Music Festival is a venture of musical and artistic coexistence. It is an area where the music plays the function of a bridge to connect, cultivate and exchange of ideas among numerous regions and cultures.
The music festival kicked off in Panaji and will end on 21 February. The Ketevan presents various music programs, modules, courses and music conferences with renowned artists, musicians from numerous traditions around the world such as Carnatic classical, Sufi, Hindustani classical, Christian, Jewish, Conventional and a lot more.
Famous musicians such as Rocio de Frutos and Mediterranean Artists – Jewish and Sephardic Music (Spain and Mediterranean), Rakesh Chaurasia (flute), Santiango Girelli (orchestra conductor from Argentina), Paola Pacciolla and Luisa Spagna – Ethnic Music and Experimental Sounds (Italy), Debashish Bhattacharya (slide guitar), Rocio De Frutos (soprano from Spain) and Leo Rossi (violinist from Argentina) are involved in this festival.
These musicians also had an interaction with children from several schools and women inmates of destitute homes during this time. While one group of musicians went to visit Lourdes Convent, Saligao and St Xavier’s Vidyalaya in Korgao, another set of musicians visited ‘ASHA Mahal’, which is a destitute home in Taleigao and the Santa Cruz school in Santa Cruz.

The musicians played Mozart at the Santa Cruz school to a booming round of applause from children. One of the school teachers, Bernadette Diniz said, “We are indeed lucky to have these accomplished musicians visiting us to perform here. This is such a big inspiration for our little children.”
