MUMBAI: Apple and Nokia has announced the settlement over the patents infringement charges made by the latter for wireless telecommunication technologies used in Apple’s iPhone smartphone.
Apple under bilateral agreement has agreed to pay an unrevealed amount as patent fees to Nokia resolving the issue over 46 cases of patents. The details of the agreement have not been revealed.
Nokia CEO and president Stephen Elop said, We are very pleased to have Apple join the growing number of Nokia licensees. This settlement demonstrates Nokia’s industry leading patent portfolio and enables us to focus further on licensing opportunities in the mobile communications market….
Nokia filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple two years ago, alleging that the iPhone violated 10 patents owned by Nokia, from security and wireless data transmission, to speech coding. Nokia has also filed suits against Sharp, LG, Samsung, and Toshiba.
